The brand new Parcourse Fit Center has exercise opportunities for people of all ages and was installed in Taylor Park in October. It was a three-day project to build the Parcourse Fit Center. The fitness center has replaced the outdoor shuffleboard court, which had been untouched for over 30 years according to the director of the Millburn Department of Recreation and Parks, Bob Hogan. Members of Project Healthy Bones were among the first to test all of the new equipment. Hogan invited township seniors to help christen the new outdoor strengthening and cardiovascular equipment following the Project Healthy Bones class. The Parcourse Fit Center cost $18,000 to build and install. It was paid for by a grant from the Essex County Recreation and Open Space Trust Fund 2009 Local Aid Program

The township of Millburn/Short Hills is the home to many extraordinary people. Potential new homeowners, aware of this fact, are eager to invest in real estate in the township of Millburn/Short Hills, and for their neighbors to be people who are actively changing the world. Property in the township of Millburn/Short Hills continues to attract hard working and dedicated potential new homeowners. A current resident of the township of Millburn/Short Hills, who has donated her life and livelihood to improving people’s lives, is a young widow dedicating her time aiding the battle against a silent killer.
Jo Turpin, the widow of the recently deceased Graham Turpin, has launched a website to inform people about pancreatic cancer. Graham Turpin was unexpectedly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away just weeks later, leaving behind his wife and son. 18 months after her horrible loss, Jo Turpin has begun the Turpin Foundation. The Turpin Foundation’s purpose is to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research as well as supporting the discovery of early detection methods. The funds raised from the foundation will go to Johns Hopkins Pancreatic Research Center. The Turpin Foundation held its very first fundraising event, the first annual Graham Turpin Memorial Charity Motorcycle Rally, on October 4, 2009. As a place for people to get clear and palatable information, Jo Turpin created the website: www.turpinfoundation.org. Jo Turpin’s full time job is now running the foundation, and it is a job that lacks a salary. Jo Turpin feels that it is too important to put off, and is absorbing all the overhead of the organization.
People like Jo Turpin are strong, motivated, unique and talented people. Jo’s dedication to her husband’s memory and helping other families is both admirable and brave. It is no surprise that potential new homeowners would want to invest in property in an area with residents such as Jo Turpin.

Part of what makes the properties in the township of Millburn/Short Hills such an appealing venue for potential new homeowners to invest in property is its proximity to so many cultural opportunities. The city of Manhattan is just a quick train or car ride away, the Montclair Museum of Art is practically next-door, and Drew University is around the corner.
Recently, the famous birder, artist and author David Allen Sibley spoke at Drew University. Sibley’s presentation was sponsored by the township of Millburn/Short Hills’s very own Cora Hartshorn Arboretum. Included in Sibley’s presentation was a signing of his latest book “The Sibley Guide to Trees.” In which he questions whether or not society takes for granted that it knows everything there is to know about the environment. Executive Director of the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum Jim Peck was very impressed with Sibley’s book “The Sibley Guide to Trees”. Peck claims that categorizing flora since the ages of Lewis and Clarke has come a long way. He maintains that, as Sibley stipulates, that after Europeans arrived in the states, the woodlands began to change very noticeably. Peck also said that Sibley’s specialties and goals are the same as the goals of the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum.
Arenas like Drew University that draw interesting and relevant lecturers such as David Allen Sibley are a great asset to the Millburn/Short Hills community. Potential new homeowners would be lucky to take advantage of all of the opportunities the township of Millburn/Short Hills has to offer.
