The Millburn-Short Hills school district ranks among the top in the state and is attended by roughly 4,580 students. The school district comprises of seven schools: five elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. The five elementary schools are Deerfield, Glenwood, Hartshorn, South Mountain, and Wyoming. They hold children grades K-5 and are named annually as some of the best elementary schools in New Jersey in the yearly State Report Card. The Great Schools overall rating system has consistently awarded the Millburn-Short Hills elementary schools as nine out of tens, or tens out of tens on their scale of excellence. They have rated Millburn Middle school and Millburn Senior High school to be ten out of tens. The Millburn public schools all rate higher than or as high as all of the public schools in the surrounding area. The Millburn Middle School, which holds grades six through eight, has been awarded the honor of being a Benchmark School of Excellence for four straight years. This honor was established by the school’s consistent excellent record of student achievement on state assessments. The Millburn Senior High School’s 2006 SAT scores were the highest scores amongst all of the public schools in New Jersey. MHS has been declared a national Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, which is the highest honor that a school in the United States can get. Additionally, the Millburn school district also provides an integrated pre-school program for students with both special needs and regular educational needs. These integrated pre-school programs have been shown to raise the performance of special needs children while additionally raising levels of tolerance in children with regular educational needs.
