Residents in Millburn/Short Hills were pleased to learn about the following improvements to the local recycling program. On June 2, 2008, the Public Works Department was extremely proud to offer the option of single stream recycling to Millburn and Short Hills. Single Stream recycling simply means that residents can now put out for collection all recyclable materials on the same day in the same container. Residents can also opt to separate recyclable materials, but either way the materials will all be picked up.
Public Works reported that one of the advantages of single stream is that it will help to remove the confusion residents may have concerning what recyclables are to be collected on which day. Also, any one material won’t have to be stockpiled for two weeks before it is collected. The flier that Public Works provided for residents to explain the new process explained that “we want to help curb your recycling appetite! Single Stream recycling will take the guess work out of what material is being collected. Everything can be in a single container or separate containers; whatever is easier for your household.” As a resident, I am excited to be able to take advantage of this new opportunity Public Works has provided for us to help the environment.
There are so many things about the Millburn/Short Hills community that continue to make it a desirable place to live. Community officials and residents alike strive to look for ways to make this a winning place to own real estate, raise children and enjoy a fabulous lifestyle.
