The abundant opportunities for recreation in the township of Millburn/Short Hills are part of the reason why buying a home in Millburn/Short Hills has become such a popular option. The director of Recreation and Parks for the township, Bob Hogan, is very excited and knowledgeable about a wide variety of recreational activities available for residents. He ensures that new home owners in the Millburn/Short Hills area are well aware of what recreational activities the town has to offer. He explained that “Millburn/Short Hills has a scenic, tree-lined, par 3 golf course that can be played in under an hour and a half. It is perfect for youth starting out the game, for seniors who enjoy the fresh air, competition and exercise, and for all golfers seeking to improve their short game”.
Additionally, Hogan was proud to say that the newly renovated pool in Millburn/Short Hills has one of the area’s biggest baby pools with a water mushroom and slide in the main pool, as well as many shade umbrellas and trees. Subsequently, the recreation department’s sports programs provide organized, competitive and enjoyable sports leagues for children who would like to participate in sports twice a week. There are also many private sports clubs in town that offer competition and skill development for athletes in search of a more intense experience.
Along with these athletic opportunities, Hogan said that the recreation department offers many non-sport related activities, such as concerts in the various parks, a chess club, horseback riding, Manners Matter courses, and a summer playground program. If none of these activities sound appealing, the township “also offers trips to baseball games and many special events such as a fishing derby in the beautiful pond at Taylor Park, egg hunts, 4 mile runs, etc.” In order to keep all of these activities running smoothly, the eight-member Recreation Commission holds monthly meetings to create sound policies and advance recreation opportunities for all residents. This commission works very closely with the board of education to help plan and maintain joint facilities.
Hard work from community members like Hogan certainly influences the popularity of buying a home in the Millburn/Short Hills community. With so many fun activities to participate in, it is no wonder that the real estate industry in Millburn/Short Hills is so successful.
