The township is a wonderful place to raise children. Millburn high school was rated the number one public high school in the state of New Jersey by a popular magazine. Students who come from Millburn high school tend to be very successful. Parents who are also potential new homeowners are interested in properties in the township of Millburn/Short Hills because they want their children to have every possible opportunity.
Recently, several Millburn High School students received accolades for their participation in a Teen Mentoring Program. The Teen Mentoring Program was started six years ago. This year, participants included 22 high school students and 27 middle and elementary school students. The mentors met with their young students on a volunteer basis a minimum of once a week, and helped them with their academics, social skills, and to build self esteem. High school study skills teacher, Diane Minkow, supervised the high school mentors through their meetings with the younger students. This year, the high school mentors who where helping at Millburn Middle School were Sam Aurnhammer, Shere Saidon and Anna Sista. The high school mentors at Glenwood School were Jack Abramowitz, Ethan Favia, Kate Horton, Mari McKaba, Emma Stein, Kara Sudberg, Jane Winkelried and Peter Costanzo. Mentoring at South Mountain School were Anna Blumenthal, Tony Boehm, Jordan Eglow and Victoria Weiland. The mentors at Wyoming were Keren Brender, Veronica Bochenik, Ottilie Gigourtakis and Sophie Schoenberg.
Not only do younger students get to benefit from the wisdom of their seniors, but older students learn about the importance and value of teaching. township of Millburn/Short Hills does an excellent job with educating children of all ages.
