NJ Monthly Magazine recently released its bi-annual school report, and there are several notable changes.

New Providence moved from 15 to #4 – a big leap, and puts this underestimated town among the ranks of the best schools in the state.

Cranford, another Union county town, which has played second fiddle to Westfield for years, has risen above Westfield (#41) to the 13th spot on the list. Doubt the residents think that’s an unlucky number this year!

Madison, always a favorite commuter town jumped from #35 to 15.

Columbia High School, which serves the joint school system of Maplewood/South Orange, rose from #89 to #75, a 16% jump up the ranks.

Aside from Madison, these towns represent much better real estate values than some of their neighbors. This latest list once again proves the benefit of living in New Jersey and helps account for the value of New Jersey real estate.

Here’s a link to the NJ Monthly website, NJ Monthly Website where all the towns are ranked.

Right now, parents, students and community members alike are excited about the 24 members of the Millburn High School Science Research course who presented their work at the 6th annual symposium.

In 2004 a 3-year program was created. Students began working their sophomore year of high school. They chose a professional research project and independently found professional assistance from outside of the school. Throughout their junior year, students collected their data. By senior year, these students are ready to present their findings at competitions and science fairs. On June 9 in Millburn High School’s science wing, research ranging from topics such as music therapy for autistic children, the geometry of the dorsal fins in whales and dolphins, potential Leukemia treatments and an economical telescope was presented. Amy Chen, Ben Lieber and Max Okinow were semifinalists in the Intel Science Talent Search this year.
